Why we all should be worried

No Warrant? No Problem.
Law enforcement often use cell phone location data as evidence. This typically requires a warrant. By installing cameras all over town law enforcement can track your location all while not needing a warrant to do it.

Your life on display
Your location data is a form of pattern of life data. Using this information can be used to find out who you associate with, or your political affiliations. Do you want law enforcement to know you’ve visited a gun store recently? What about a health clinic?

With power comes the potential for Misuse
There have already been many documented cases of ALPRs being misused around the country. A clear consequence of little to no oversight regarding use of ALPR systems.

Secure like an unlocked door
ALPR (Automated License Plate Reader) systems have an impressive history of amateurish security. Requiring less verification to track thousands of people than to login to Facebook is just the tip of the iceberg.
These are 95 of the known locations where these cameras are installed. Currently Tracy PD does not disclose the location of any cameras to the public.
